Long Ridge Energy Terminal (Long Ridge), in collaboration with JobsOhio, Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE) and Monroe County Economic Development today announced that the Ohio Tax Credit Authority granted it a 75 percent, ten-year Data Center Sales Tax Exemption.

Long Ridge, which recently completed construction of a 485 megawatt gas fired power plant, is offering more than 200 megawatts of capacity to serve custom hyperscale data center and blockchain mining development. Situated between Columbus, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania in an Opportunity Zone, Long Ridge expects to create 25 full-time positions, generating $1.5 million in new annual payroll and retaining $1.7 million in existing payroll as a result of the company’s expansion.

“Long Ridge Energy Terminal has a unique site with amazing transportation infrastructure and a supply of reliable, competitively priced electricity,” said OhioSE President Mike Jacoby. “With plans for using hydrogen in the energy mix, it also can be a green option for companies. We are pleased to see a data center component on site. There is still a lot of space for other companies, and we are excited for the future.”

Establishment of a data center campus has been a central focus of redevelopment efforts at the Monroe County property due in part to the on-site power plant. Last fall, Long Ridge announced plans to transition its power plant to run on carbon-free hydrogen. The company intends to begin providing power created by hydrogen to customers as early as November 2021 by blending hydrogen in the gas stream.

Monroe County is excited to welcome this latest investment at Long Ridge Energy Terminal. “The block chain data center project adds to the growing number of high-tech/high-skill jobs that stem from our local, abundant energy resources,” said Jason Hamman, Monroe County’s economic development representative. “The announcement of this project demonstrates that Monroe County not only has the critical site selection factors that make this project possible, but also the workforce to execute the project from construction to operation.”

Long Ridge continues to actively market the facility to potential commercial and industrial tenants, leveraging additional investment in Monroe County.
