Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE) mourns the passing of former team member and longtime community leader Ed Looman, who passed away on December 8, 2025, following a lengthy illness.

Ed was an integral part of OhioSE from its earliest days, serving the organization as both a Project Manager and Engagement Manager prior to his retirement in September 2024. In these roles, he helped shape OhioSE’s work across the region, building relationships, supporting local partners, and advancing economic development efforts throughout Southeast Ohio. Company expansions he supported include Kraft Heinz Foods in Coshocton County, JSW Steel in Jefferson County, and Utica East Ohio Gathering in Carroll County.

"As someone new to economic development over a decade ago, Ed was a great mentor and coach to me," said Matt Abbott President & CEO of OhioSE. "Ed had a way about him that could make the people around him feel like longtime friends. His contributions to economic development in the twenty-five county OhioSE region will be felt for generations to come. We extend our deepest condolences to his family."

Before joining OhioSE, Ed served as Executive Director of Progress Alliance, the public-private economic development organization for Jefferson County. His career reflected a deep commitment to place-based leadership and public service, informed by decades of experience in journalism and community engagement. Across every role he held, Ed was known for his thoughtfulness, professionalism, and ability to connect with people.

“Ed was universally liked. His easy-going style and sense of humor helped to build trust and lasting friendships,” said Mike Jacoby, Director of Economic Development at Bricker Graydon and former OhioSE President. “Through his personal style, he became a very effective ambassador for OhioSE. I will miss him.”

Colleagues remember Ed not only for his dedication to his work, but also for his warmth, sense of humor, and genuine care for others. He brought enthusiasm to every conversation and took great pride in the communities he served.

OhioSE extends its heartfelt condolences to Ed’s wife Carol, children, grandchildren, and extended family. He will be remembered with gratitude and respect by the many colleagues, partners, and friends whose lives he touched through his work and friendship.

Friends may call at Mosti Funeral Home, 4435 Sunset Boulevard, Steubenville on Sunday, December 21, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 22, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at a later date at Mentor Cemetery.
