Taking place from May 4–8, the week recognizes and honors the dedicated work of economic developers and their contributions to communities around the world
OhioSE is proud to announce its participation in the 2026 Economic Development Week, a global initiative led by the International Economic Development Council (IEDC).
This year’s theme, “100 Years of Impact,” recognizes IEDC’s centennial anniversary and 100 years of leadership in economic development. Economic Development Week presents an opportunity to examine the evolution of economic development, celebrate our successes today, and lay the groundwork for the next era of prosperity for our community.
"As we reflect on a century of economic development, the role of economic developers has never been more important," said IEDC President and CEO Nathan Ohle. "Economic Development Week is an opportunity to celebrate transformational economic development in communities around the world. At the heart of Economic Development Week are success stories of how the field works together to support, cultivate, and drive economic prosperity for people and places everywhere.”
The IEDC created Economic Development Week in 2016 to recognize the work that EDOs and professionals do in their communities. IEDC celebrates Economic Development Week every year, highlighting the programs, best practices, and exceptional individuals that positively impact life in their communities.
This year, Economic Development Week aligns with National Small Business Week. Small businesses are at the heart of job creation, innovation, and community vitality. Economic developers play a critical role in supporting their growth through access to capital, workforce development, technical assistance, and strategic partnerships.
“Economic Development Week is a chance to reflect not just on how far we’ve come, but where we’re headed,” said Matt Abbott, President and CEO of OhioSE. “The progress we’ve made across Southeast Ohio is the result of strong partnerships and shared momentum — and we’re continuing to build on that foundation to create new opportunities across all 25 counties.”
Over the past fourteen years, OhioSE has built a strong team of 16 dedicated professionals, developed a brand, supported over 460 projects that have or will create over 13,400 jobs and invest over $16.2 billion in fixed asset capital. OhioSE has worked with JobsOhio to invest over $50 million of JobsOhio funds into speculative site and building development and redevelopment projects, helping to lay a foundation for future business growth in the region.
“Much of economic development happens behind the scenes, but its impact shows up in stronger communities, new jobs, and expanded opportunities,” Abbott said. “This work takes time, trust, and collaboration, and we’re proud to stand alongside the local leaders and partners who are moving our region forward every day.”
Ohio Southeast Economic Development (OhioSE) is the JobsOhio Network Partner for southern, eastern, and southeastern Ohio, providing economic development work and resources in 25 rural counties. Geographically the largest of the seven regions across the state, OhioSE partners closely with regional development districts, local economic development offices, state agencies, and other entities to expand, retain, and attract businesses in the counties they serve.
